How the relationship was built
The Cardo Got Wings connection started at the end of 2018. From the Idea Studios About page: “Cardo found DJ Idea on YouTube. NAMM 2019 was the first in-person meeting. That same year, a week in LA at Cardo’s crib introduced DJ Idea to Young Thug, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, ScHoolboy Q, and 42 Dugg. Travis Scott’s birthday party that year. Cardo called DJ Idea ‘my little brother.'”
The week at Cardo’s place put DJ Idea inside the working LA studio environment. Sessions, signal chain technique, plug-in routing review. That technique came back to Honolulu and became the standard the Idea Studios mixing chain was built around.
Mixing standards at Idea Studios were dialed in alongside What Up 5, an LA engineer whose work has helped sharpen the studio’s sound. The engineers running Studio A and Studio B sessions are trained on that same standard.
