Hawaii-grown. LA-built.
The studio that came back to the islands after time in the Burbank rooms · same standard of build-out, same standard of sound.
2019. Built by family. Open since.
DJ Idea opened Idea Studios in Honolulu in November 2019 · a multi-room facility designed to feel like the Burbank studios he worked in when traveling with Cardo Got Wings.
Double drywall. Double frame. Double doors. Suede sound-treated walls. Every detail was chosen to bring LA-grade aesthetic and acoustics to a Hawaii location. Built with his family. Operating since.
The Cardo Lineage
End of 2018, Cardo found DJ Idea on YouTube. NAMM 2019 was the first in-person meeting. That same year, a week in LA at Cardo's crib introduced DJ Idea to Young Thug, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, ScHoolboy Q, and 42 Dugg. Travis Scott's birthday party that year. Cardo called DJ Idea "my little brother."
The Sonic Standard
That same Cardo connection put DJ Idea in working Los Angeles sessions through 2019. Not as a tourist. As a producer in the room. Time at Interscope. Time studying signal chain over the shoulder of working LA engineers, the ones who'd touched records you've heard a thousand times. Sessions shared back for review so plug-in routing could be reverse-engineered, not guessed at.
That's the knowledge transfer Idea Studios was built around. The acoustic build-out in Honolulu replicates what the LA rooms got right. Mixing standards were dialed in alongside What Up 5, an LA engineer whose work has helped sharpen the studio's sound. The engineers running Studio A and Studio B sessions are trained on the same signal-chain standards. Final mix walks out with you, not "rough mix one, rough mix two, two months later."
Every engineered session at Idea Studios is paced as one finished track per booked hour. The two-hour minimum buys two finished tracks. A four-hour booking buys four. The booking is not a stopwatch. It is a contract for finished product. That standard is the reason the rate is what it is, and the reason the work walks out the door done.
The Pioneer Quote
"You're the pioneer of that for this generation. That mob, that's your sound."
10+ Years. One Beat A Day.
DJ Idea has uploaded one original beat to YouTube every single day since June 2016. 10 years, unbroken. 7.24M lifetime views. 19,800 subscribers. That's the discipline the studio runs on.
The Receipts
287 documented production placements live on the public Prod. By DJ Idea YouTube playlist. 11 framed certifications on the lounge wall. Larry June iTunes Top 100 #19 plaque. Every plaque commemorates a track produced in these rooms.
Island Sessions
The credentials lean West Coast hip-hop, but Idea Studios is rooted in Honolulu and tracks for the island too. Reggae artist Hirie recorded "Blacklist" (feat. Matisyahu) at Idea Studios and shot the "I'm High" music video on premises. Local sessions for working Hawaii artists run on the same engineering standard as the LA-pedigree work.
Low Key By Design
No street signage. No public storefront. Idea Studios operates discreetly by design · high-value gear, hosted artists, the kind of operation where every detail of arrival and access is handled directly with the client. Confirmed bookings receive arrival instructions 24 hours before the session.
Book the room. Make the record.
Studio C is self-serve, paid online, ID-verified, doors unlock for your session. Studios A and B are by direct inquiry.
